Dear Tea Diary

Dear Tea Diary,
6/3/2019

I think we should take a break. Or maybe break up? I just don’t think we are in the same place right now. I have loved you for as long as I can remember but now it just feels like we are caught in the same routine. I miss the spark when I pour you into my cup. I miss the way you look before you’ve had the chance to unfurl, don’t even get me started on your aroma. However, these days…

We’re two ships that pass in the night.
And we smile when we say it’s alright.
We’re still here.
It’s just that we’re out of sight.
~ Barry Manilow

I still love you. I’m just not “in love” with you. How do we spark the passion again?

Recently I took to Facebook and asked that very question. My love for tea is deeply rooted. As with many things this long term relationship is always changing, always in flux. I know I will be in Las Vegas in just one week eager and ready to dive into what is new and sniff out some of the best teas the world has to offer at World Tea Expo. Just imagine the best of the best all in one place. When I start to think about it my blood starts to pump the excitement starts to percolate. So pumped! However, not all of us can make it to this multi-day event dedicated to the best of the industry, plus mix in other tea geeks just like me it’s fireworks. Clearly this is event is like drinking every energy drink at once, and will reignite even the dullest fire. Goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway… DO NOT drink every energy drink at once. Heck maybe don’t drink any at all. Just drink tea.

How do we reignite that flame at home? The office?

1. Take a break.
2. Try something new and then go back to old favorites.
3. Experiment with new tea.
4. Try cooking with tea.
5. Make tea art.

Here are responses from other tea enthusiasts from my iHeartTeas The Blog Facebook post. Thank you to all of you for offering your advice and making me feel better about my situation. It is my thought that this sort of phase happens to all of us sometimes. I look at is as a pain scale in this case a passion scale. 1-10 with one meaning you’re really struggling and 10 loving all things tea. If you have a deep love for tea it will come back. Sometimes it will be more challenging and you’ll need to exercise patience but it will all work out.

Comment with some of your best ideas on how to get out of the slump.
